by lowes1 on August 14, 2010

Demonstration of tethering iPad (wifi-only version) thru my Droid as a wireless hotspot, effectively turning my iPad into an iPad 3G… and thru Verizon instead of crappy AT&T!

how can i root my droid if i have a mac?

collegekid491 August 14, 2010 at 8:15 pm

@mikesz06vette
By this I mean taking on IBM

collegekid491 August 14, 2010 at 8:26 pm

@mikesz06vette
Actually IBM was the bad guy. Bill and Steve even teamed up for this, although they parted ways.

mikesz06vette August 14, 2010 at 8:28 pm

@LivingLifewithLiz Sure – you can root it. Depending on what phone you have, you can find the instructions all over the internet.

mikesz06vette August 14, 2010 at 8:49 pm

@littletwerpy You have to setup Encryption in the menu. Then setup a WEP key.

Ads are very annoying!

I did it and everything works fine except i cant get it to put a password on my phone. I can do access control and when someone connects give them permission or not but i still cant set a password. (Droid Eris)

thats right, buy a iPad then go get verizon phone and use that to tether, completely staying away from att service. way too burn Steve Jobs.. hows that feel getting fucked in the ass like that huh Steve?

omgthisiswerid August 14, 2010 at 11:35 pm

but phone´s battery die in few time.

mikesz06vette August 15, 2010 at 1:03 am

@wrenchy744 My thoughts exactly! Android passed the iPhone as far as features and functionality a long time ago. Even with Android 1.5 back in November 2008, you could do more with a G1 than you could an iPhone.

Sucks that Steve is such a control freak like this. Remember his commercials in 1987 talking about control? And do no evil? Microsoft was supposed to be the bad guy! But now, Apple is breaking down doors in Palo Alto while good ole Bill Gates is ridding the world of AIDS!

@3li3li3li Advantages? Besides being able to get online anywhere not just thru wifi. The main advantage if you’re on Verizon anyway is that you have a much better and bigger 3G network that crappy AT&T. Its more reliable and its in more places. Speed is pretty decent, of course dependent on how good of signal you have on your phone. Video quality is usually very good. Only time it wouldn’t be is if you’re in an area with poor signal, then video will be choppy.

mikesz06vette August 15, 2010 at 2:05 am

@ElliotReidMD Great, glad to hear it!

mikesz06vette August 15, 2010 at 3:01 am

@Martins2012 Somewhat.. it won’t pinpoint you perfectly, but it’ll get close most of the time. The iPad uses known wifi hotspot locations to find your location.

mienhboy503 August 15, 2010 at 3:54 am

@mikesz06vette that person probably got enough money to squander. no luck needed.

mikesz06vette August 15, 2010 at 4:04 am

Your phone MUST be rooted to do this.

LivingLifewithLiz August 15, 2010 at 4:04 am

My phone is not rooted. can I o anything about that?

LivingLifewithLiz August 15, 2010 at 4:12 am

My motorola droid states “Not Root” Root privileges are needed to run this application. How do I get this? Or get past this? HELP

masterslayersp August 15, 2010 at 5:10 am

does that app drain a lot of battery?

Martins2012 August 15, 2010 at 5:25 am

Does “My Location” works on google maps??? Thanks.

ElliotReidMD August 15, 2010 at 6:07 am

Excellent video. For some reason I thought you’d need to jailbreak the iPad to be able to tether it to a phone for the 3G but obviously not. My Android phone works a treat.
