Challenge Premise:

Established by the not-for-profit WhyITNow.org initiative the Mobile Innovators Challenge is an opportunity for students and teachers to:

* Gain industry recognition
* Gain industry knowledge and skills
* Win prizes
* Enable educators to integrate learning projects into the classroom
* Give something back to the community by designing, developing and promoting a fully functional mobile application for an organization in need
* Network with other professionals and students

WhyITNow.org and MobileInnovators.org believes that today’s IT professionals can and must:

* Balance their skill sets with an ability to analyze a situation and produce a viable solution.
* Apply technology and design development techniques and business strategies appropriately for the circumstances.

Details:

1.Create one 2-3 minute video titled “My Mobile App for Small Business”
2.Post it on YouTube www.youtube.com
3.Send the YouTube url link with “Mobile App” in the subject line, with name, city, state and school to info@mobileinnovators.org or by using the contact us form no later then May 28, 2010

MobileInnovators.org will:

1.Select the best 5 to 10 finalist and 3 semi finalist
2.Post them on the MobileInnovators.org Website
3.Award one student a $250.00 cash and one Nokia mobile device to the winner by the contact information in their e-mail
4. Award three semi-finalists a Mobile Innovators T Shirt and a certificate

Prizes awarded from third party does not imply a WOW is a not-for-profit professional association providing community, education and certification for Web Professionals. The Mobile Innovators Challenge is not affiliated with any other contest or organizations. The WOW organization is solely responsible for its contest and its promotion.

Why are we doing this?

Studies reflect a disconnect between the IT community and small businesses. The WhyITNow.org initiative and the Mobile Innovators Challenge aims to support teachers and students in the classroom with industry driven support while connecting students with business leaders within their community.

* Getting started with the Nokia WRT Extension for Dreamweaver and Web Runtime widget from the Nokia Corporation

* Here is a Screen cast movie: Creating widgets with the Nokia WRT Plug-in for Aptana Studio (Aptanta is a free tool, so I think this is the best for students)

* Couple articles to get them started as well. Both should contains all the links to get the tools and start coding.

Eligibility:

The Challenge is open to students or teachers that are legal residents of California, USA who are 14 years of age or older at the time the challenge commences. Minors and those under 18 are required to have their parents or legal guardian’s permission to participate. Winners of the challenge will be required to document in writing parental of legal guardian approval prior to the winning announcement. Signed consent forms can be transmitted by facsimile (fax) to 916 987-3022. The Challenge is subject to all federal, state and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited by law or regulation. Participants agree to abide by the terms of these official rules and by the decisions of the Sponsor which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to the Sponsor. The Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any participant that it determines, in its sole discretion, is ineligible to participate in the Challenge.

Electronic entries must include a valid e-mail address, url of the “My Mobile App for Small Business” for the entrant. In the event of a dispute as to the identity or eligibility of a winner based on an e-mail address, the winning entry will be declared made by the “Authorized Account Holder” [defined as the natural person who is assigned to the email address by an Internet Access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) of the email address submitted at the time of the entry.

Summary:

In order to enter the Challenge, you must enter your name, email address, and school name by e-mail to infoATmobileinnovators.org on the contact us form. By providing your name and email address, you become an official challenger and you agree that you have read and understand the rules and conditions. Click here to read our privacy policy. To enter the Challenge, you must transmit a description by video (2-3 mins) posted on YouTube.com of why your Mobile App for Small Business is beneficial to small business in California and e-mail us with the YouTube.com url in the time period outlined in this challenge. The MobileInnovators.org editorial staff will review and may edit all entries before posting. Entries deemed irrelevant, potentially libelous or inflammatory will not be posted. Entries must be based on your own personal experiences. There is a limit of one entry per participant. Once the Challenge has begun, wining entries will be posted within five working days at the conclusion of the contest, following review by the MobileInnovators.org editorial staff.

“MobileInnovators.org Challenge” semi-final winners will be selected by a vote of MobileInnovators.org editorial staff. over a five day period starting at May 28, 2010 and ending at June 5, 2010 The first round of voting will begin on May 28, 2010 at 8 am and end June 5, 2010 at 11:59AM. Results may also be obtained by sending a written request to MobileInnovators.org, or by snail mail at P.O. Box 1743 Folsom, and CA 95763. Winners and Semi-final winners will be notified by email and will be posted on the website at http://www.MobileInnovators.org/challenge

The winner of the “My Mobile App for Small Business” Grand Prize will be based solely on the votes cast during this period. The winner of the “My Mobile App for Small Business” Grand Prize will be announced on the MobileInnovators.org website no later than May 28, 2010. The winner may also be obtained by sending a written request to MobileInnovators.org, MobileInnovators.org, or by snail mail at P.O. Box 1743 Folsom, and CA 95763

The decisions of the Sponsor are final. The winner of the “My Mobile App for Small Business” Grand Prize and the “semi finals “My Mobile App for Small Business” Prize will be required to execute an affidavit of eligibility, a release of any and all liability from any claims for damages, losses or injury against Sponsor and/or any of its agents or contractors arising from use of the prize, and such other forms as the Sponsor may require.

The full names of the participants and winners will not be made public by the Sponsor. All entries become the property of MobileInnovators.org and will not be returned. Entries may be used by MobileInnovators.org for any purpose without the permission of the participant or any consideration apart from participation in the Challenge in accordance with these official rules. MobileInnovators.org may, but is under no obligation to, verify the information set forth in an entry prior to publication. MobileInnovators.org may edit each entry, whether or not selected as a winner, and may republish it on the MobileInnovators.org website and in any other form.

Prizes:

Each semi-final winner shall receive the following prize: The Grand Prize for the “My Mobile App for Small Business” winner will consist a check for $250.00 and Nokia mobile device The “Semi-Finalists” for the “My Mobile App for Small Business” winner will consist a “Mobile Innovators” T-Shirt and their videos posted on the “MobileInnovators.org” website.

Prizes are not transferable and no substitutions are allowed except by the Sponsor, who reserves the right to award a prize of equal or greater value if the advertised prize is unavailable. Unclaimed prizes will not be awarded. All taxes and other expenses related to any prize are the responsibility of the prize winners. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery.

Cost:

There is not cost to participate in the Challenge. No purchase is necessary.

Rounds:

There will only be one round in this Challenge for the “Grand Prizes” and one for the “Semi Finalists”

Dates:

The Challenge will begin on April 17, 2010 and will end no later than 12:00PM, May 28, 2010 Entries will be accepted via e-mail or by contact form on the MobileInnovators.org website beginning on April 17,2010.

Limitation of Liability:

If for any reason the Challenge is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Challenge, the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the Challenge, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Challenge. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Sponsor is not responsible for problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers computer equipment, software, failure of any email to be received by the Sponsor on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this Challenge.

By participating in the Challenge, each participant agrees to release and hold the Sponsor and its sponsors, partners, supporters and volunteers harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with or resulting from participation in the Challenge and/or acceptance, possession, or use of any prize(s) including, without limitation, personal injuries, death, property damages and any claims by third parties or otherwise based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy. Entrants acknowledge that Sponsor is not responsible or liable for any warranty, representation, or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to any Prize.

Jurisdiction:

Any dispute that may arise hereunder shall be brought solely in the appropriate state or federal court sitting in the state of California and participants consent to the personal jurisdiction and venue of such court.
